Tom,
If Jim Kunstler is 50 percent right, which he may be, it's going to be a long emergency. Next post describes the deep crisis that's unfolding in the suburbs, and not just in Michigan. We might need that ordinance you've got in Oak Park that prohibits "for sale" signs in yards. Happy Holidays, Keith

if kuntster is even 50% correct, the american sprawl lifestyle (and economy) will be changing significantly, beginning with taken for granted auto and airplane travel....we would be wise to start building some key, backbone, high speed bullet trains linking metro regions....not only as an insurance policy against high oil prices, but simply to diversify the system, and hey, creating a few new jobs wouldn't hurt either!

It's tough to walk around without "gee whiz, it'll all work out!!! (*heart*)" blinders on. No one wants to hear what you have to say. Denial: it's in our DNA.

Best,
